The old Standard Horizon VHF radio most likely is still working fine, but somewhere along its antenna is a problem that prevents me from getting anything but one of the weather stations. Given that the radio is at least 20 ears old, I felt it was time to update the entire system. I saw two big benefits tht woudl come from doing so: First, newer radios are nearly half the size of my old one which blocked convenient use of the icebox lid. Second, I really like the new DSC functionality. If I were injured I could easily instruct my five year old how to call for help with a single button. Not only that, but the cost of this project was low in consideration of the value it would provide.
